KIEREN JACK

You’ve spent your entire AFL playing career, going on 13 years now - at the Sydney Swans; one of AFL’s most respected and admired clubs – what does the red & white mean to you?

I feel very fortunate. The behaviours and culture I’ve been exposed to since I was recruited have helped me develop into the footballer and person I am today. It’s a privilege and also carries great responsibility.

You’ve had an amazing career over many years with some major achievements – do you have a highlight? Do you tend to look back & reflect in the off season?

Certainly the 2012 Premiership. It’s a team game and to realise ultimate success is something nobody can take away from you. I do reflect after every season, mainly to focus on what I can improve on for the following year.

What’s the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?

I’ve had some great mentors and teachers along the way. “The harder you work the luckier you get” still resonates with me since hearing it in my first year at the football club. Other advice that has had an impact on me includes “If you fail to prepare, prepare to fail”, and “Only you are responsible for your own happiness.”

Do you have a pre-game ritual that you swear by? What is it & Why?

I used to be quite obsessive about my pre-game rituals and routines. Not so much now. I make sure I’m clear in my mind and confident in my preparation to perform.

OK, enough footy chat – let’s talk fashion... How would you describe your personal style?

Ask my fiancée and she’ll say pretty simple! Footballers 90% of the time are in either casual clothes or footy gear. But when the opportunity arises I do enjoy putting in a bit more effort. I like classic styles that are pretty simple and are comfortable to wear...so my fiancée is probably right!

Traditionally, perhaps due to the “banter” culture of the dressing room - Perception is that footballers tend to be conservative about their style choices; placing a premium on not being different... Would you agree with this or as an insider do you see things differently?

That’s a pretty fair assessment. If you fall on either side of the spectrum by caring too little or caring too much about style choices you can fall victim to a bit of “banter” but it’s all harmless and in good fun. It can also be funny in a group of 44 players when two people wear the same t-shirt and shorts combo. We’re such kind people aren’t we!?

What are the key considerations that you make when choosing a suit?

For me it's about the fit. A well tailored suit helps exude confidence. The ability to move freely and not feel restricted is also important. The team at Farage have certainly helped educate me on this throughout the years!

Whose style do you most admire & why?

I look at other athletes and I love Roger Federer. The guy is so full of class on and off the tennis court. Definite man crush!

What do you do to unwind?

I like to keep low key, whether that be sitting at a cafe reading the paper or going for a drive with my fiancée to find some of Sydney’s hidden gems like Bradley’s Head in Mosman or Parsley Bay in Vaucluse.

Name 3 things you absolutely cannot live without...

My Partner, snacks and my phone.

We’re celebrating our 20th birthday this year which is exciting... This milestone has us reflecting on our journey & those who have been there with us along the way. To celebrate this achievement, we’re asking our friends to sum us up in three words...

Class, loyal, professional.

Kieren tell us ... What does Farage mean to you?

To me Farage represents class and professionalism helping us look sharp away from the footy field.
